Chapel of Christ the King

Support the Chapel of Christ The King

The Chapel of Christ the King at the George & Giovita Maffei Family Commons serves as the new worship space for all of the King's College Community from students, faculty, staff, Holy Cross, alumni to the local community and beyond. The College completely refurbished the Memorial Church on North Street built in 1872, restoring the original stained glass windows and architectural elements to their original grandeur. The Chapel was dedicated on September 15, 2019 at a special liturgy celebrated by Most Reverend Bishop Joseph C. Bambera, D.D. of the Scranton Diocese, concelebrated by King's President Rev. John Ryan, C.S.C., Ph.D., and many additional members of the Holy Cross order.

The interior of the church is in the form of an inverted ship, with the timbers that support the roof replicating the ribs and beams of a massive ship's hull. The design recalls scriptures that speak of Noah's ark as an instrument of salvation, carrying God's people to safety.

As the words inscribed on the Chapel exterior quote, "whoever so will, let them come" we invite the entire King's Community to worship with us in this beautiful new space.
